A burdensome sword

The sword moves from hand to hand, scratching and grazing the ground. The weight is to much for the handler to bear. Get up and fight for your day, at least that is what the sun would say. There is a dragon to face and a battle to win. Its fire blows a blaze, etching the land in black. Is there hope for the warrior, or is this an endless grave? The dragons temper can not be tamed at least that’s the lie he made.

The dragon slinked around the warrior, taunting his strength. Who are you, thinking you can defeat me? You are not a threat to me. I have eaten warriors who are bigger than giants, and you are the height of a small man. I have demolished clans who are dedicated to destroying monsters like me. At least they have a name well known across the land and what is yours? The dragon growled a laugh as small ambers floated from his mouth.

Maybe you should go home now, make for yourself a name. Give the people a name to remember before I devour you. The dragon drew close to the face of the warrior, but that would only delay your pain. I see your shaking in those boots of yours, I know you want to run. So run, run as fast as you can. No one will know you ever encountered me. Go now, this is your last chance. I see your tears, I see that fear in your eyes.

Is that why you haven’t moved yet, your frozen in fear? The dragon stood tall and spread his wings. Understandable considering how great I am. I will make you a deal, if you kneel before me I will allow you to live. Pretty simple to do, don’t you think?

You really think that is better the warrior cried!

Oh, the dragon mocked. Now the warrior decides to speak, go ahead little man speak.

He took a stance for battle. If I kneel before you, it would be worse . I would still be under your violent rule along with everyone who doesn’t know my name. I’m not holding this sword to become known for defeating you, but to be free from you!

You idiot! The dragon began to burn red. You will never be free, you can’t even lift that sword of yours. It’s just grazing the ground the whole time you have been here.

Your right I haven’t been able to lift it. I feel its weight, I feel the burden of the lies you tell me. Honestly I want to believe them. Give up and walk away, but I won’t. I won’t be your slave anymore. I won’t believe theses lies anymore, including the lie that my sword is heavy. As the warrior finished his words the blade sliced through the air. Striking the dragon to very core of its soul. Trapping the dragons flame inside, burning and consuming what use to burn the hearts of man.

The warrior stood still with the sword in the air. I am free!

I am a lover of writings and over the years I have collected a handful of poems and stories I have written. The more I wrote the more I realized I should do something with it, besides putting it in a box.
